Semester's End
Apr. 28th, 2011 09:23 pmI gave my last lecture of the semester tonight in differential geometry. I'll have to go in tomorrow to take care of some paperwork I've been putting off, but other than that all that's left are finals and Senior Project presentations.
I covered the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem Tuesday night. Funny how things work.... Last year was the first time we'd gotten that far, and I'm afraid I delivered the proof pretty much by rote. This time around, I gave more thought to it, and saw more clearly how the proof worked; I still managed to fluff some details, though I caught them before I finished. It wasn't until this morning that I figured out the right way to present it. (Or, at least, a righter way than I followed Tuesday.)
Meanwhile, one of my credit card companies is giving me fits. I've been paying those bills online for at least the last year and a half, and the data - routing number, account number, etc. - hasn't changed, but for some reason they're getting an "invalid number" bounce from my bank. Seeing that my other credit card has the same data, and my payment there went through without a hitch, I'm inclined to think the fault is theirs, not my bank's. The bank teller I talked to this evening was sympathetic but not very helpful. I'll have to pay by check, I guess.
The mowers came on Tuesday, and mowed outside and inside the fence. Apparently there was no trouble with the dogs. Still, I'm leery of having them come when I'm not home; if they make a mistake and let Buster out, I dread the possible consequences. He's a car chaser, and if he wanders out to Route 159.... I'll have to talk to them about that.
 Tired.
