Yesterday was the annual math contest at the university; teams from all of the local high schools compete in a variety of events, and the winners move on to higher-level competitions. As usual, I volunteered to judge one of the events. In this one, two students from each high school are given materials to study a particular topic. On arrival, they are given three questions, and fifteen minutes to work out the answers. Then, they present the answers in front of the judges, and must also answer one or two smaller impromptu questions. Usually, only a few of the teams actually demonstrate understanding of the material, but it's always a pleasure to see those teams in action.
I didn't get a whole lot done today, apart from preparing a lot of stuff for recycling - I'd let it pile up for a couple of months.... Played Civ IV for about an hour and a half, as Hatshepsut; I'm in the process of overrunning Bismarck's Germany, which will give me control of my continent, and then I'll shift gears and head for a Cultural victory.
On the research front, what I thought I saw at the beginning of the week turned out to be wrong, but I'm closing in on a clear picture. Not as interesting as I'd hoped, but still, a complete classification theorem is never to be sneezed at.
One more week, then Spring Break - which I will spend having people come in to fix things around the house....
