Trying Something New
Jan. 27th, 2011 11:38 amThis Sunday, paging through Supercookery!, I decided to try something new. I noticed a recipe for "Tagliatelli Verdi con Salsa di Tonno". The symbols beside the recipe indicated that it was cheap, quick, and easy. I scanned the ingredients - tunafish, chicken stock, pasta - and the procedures and decided yeah, that looks easy enough; I'll give it a try. I couldn't find tagliatelli verdi at Shop'n'Save, so I substituted linguini. I also didn't bother with the parsley; parsley doesn't impress me much, whether decorative or edible1.
The first helping was kind of meh; edible, but a little bland. On subsequent helpings, the Iron Law of Casseroles ("leftovers are always better") took hold, and it's been pretty tasty. Not something to go in the regular rotation, but an interesting change.
It was not until just now, as I was eating my fifth serving, that I realized that what I'd made was a variation on tuna noodle casserole....
1. This reminds me of a slightly off-color anecdote involving Randall Garrett, Bob Silverberg, and an oblivious C. L. Moore ("Hey, Bob, she's eating parsley!"), but I digress....
