Closnig Down Slae! Everythnig Must Og!
Jul. 6th, 2010 06:45 pmSo, I made it to Piece of Mind this morning. The storekeeper told me that yesterday was a madhouse, and I was probably better off for having missed it.
In any case, what bibliophile could resist a 20% off sale at a good indie bookstore? About half the books I bought were continuations of series or at least by familiar authors: a couple each by Julie Kenner (Deja Demon, Demon Ex Machina), C. J. Cherryh (Deliverer, Pretender), and Dick Francis (Knockdown, Longshot), plus an Evanovich (Twelve Sharp) and a McKinley (The Blue Sword). The rest were targets of opportunity: a collection of short stories by H. G. Wells, a translation of The Cattle Raid of Cooley, Tao Te Ching, Siddhartha, The Voyages of the Beagle, Anna Comnena's Alexiad, Lermontov's A Hero of Our Time, Dracula (which I once had but seem to have misplaced), and Simon Winchester's book on Krakatoa.
That should keep me for a while. The sale will go on for several more days, but I think I mined it pretty well.
