If It Ain't Broke... Maintain It!
Oct. 26th, 2009 05:57 pmHome maintenance is not something I've been good at. I've lived in this house for about seventeen years now, and some things have gotten out of hand. However, I'm finally starting to move on things. I took care of a problem with the roof a while back; the next big deal is a serious drainage problem that's developed. I talked to a landscaper today, and he says he can fix the whole situation for about $1100. That should be taken care of by the end of November.
There are a couple of other, minor problems to deal with, but the house and yard should be in reasonable shape soon. That opens the possibility of my Major Project.
I've been talking, since I bought the place, about turning the basement into a library, and I'm thinking I'll start that ball rolling in spring. Clean up the basement; get the stairs fixed (they're a little on the rickety side); put in paneling, flooring, and a dehumidifier; improve the lighting; then, finally, install shelving all over the place. (Almost all of my bookcases are double-full, and many of my books aren't on shelves at all.) It's going to cost a fair bit, but it'll improve the situation a great deal.
After that, the great carpeting caper....
