And On the First Day
Mar. 7th, 2009 11:37 amThe info sheet I was given on Buster describes him as "active and vocal". Gracie's sheet contains no such notation. Hoo boy....
Buster is actually kind of laid-back. He will bark on occasion, and he does get excited when I go into the kitchen or approach the front or back doors. But, by and large, he's cool. If I sit down on the couch, he'll jump up next to me and lie down. He won't beg for scritches, but he'll take them gratefully if offered. Likewise when I went to bed: he hopped up next to me, curled up, and went to sleep.
Then there's Gracie. Well, she's a terrier, so I should have expected it, but she's definitely "active and vocal". If I sit down on the couch, she'll either try to hop into my lap, or, if her path is blocked by Buster, she'll come around on the other side and dance until I pick her up. She sits under my feet when I'm at the computer, so placed that if my feet even twitch they'll bump her - and, of course, bumping her is an invitation to try to get into my lap. For that, at the desk, she does need to be picked up - at which point she'll either climb onto my shoulder or try to get on the desk.
Bedtime... Her place, she clearly believes, is by my head. Or on my head. Or on my hair, which, at this point in late winter, is even worse.
On top of which, at night she Hears Things (some of which may be real) and is convinced that Things must be confronted, immediately and loudly. Needless to say, I didn't get as much sleep as I'd like last night. She's lucky she's so cute.
She's also hyperactive, which - along with her tininess - makes photographing her well very hard. Let me correct that: it's easy to get a shot of her from behind. From in front, well, click fast or you'll miss her! Even then, it'll probably be an overhead shot; if I want a picture of her face, I pretty much have to get down on the floor, which, again, is an invitation to come a-runnin'.
I lie. There's one other way to snap her face: get her up on her hind legs dancing. For that, I just have to go into the kitchen. She and Buster know about kitchens and what happens there, oh yes.
