Oct. 20th, 2008 03:56 pm1. I brought Ben's ashes home today. They're on the mantel, to the left of the clock; Murphy's are to the right. I have one good photograph of each of them in their prime; I'm thinking about mounting those photos by or on the boxes, if I can come up with a way of doing so without damaging the cedar.
2. I'm rereading Heinlein's Assignment in Eternity anthology. (I'm never sure whether to class something as "rereading", if it's been literally decades since the last time and I remember nothing, but I have pretty clear, if incomplete, memories of the four stories in this set.) In the two longer stories - "Gulf" and "Lost Legacy" - RAH's tendency towards sophomoric pontification really gets away from him, and his ignorance of how linguistics and symbolic logic really work annoys me. Still, there're a fair number of interesting ideas.
3. I'm also reading Kevin Phillips' The Cousins' Wars, which is pretty interesting so far. I'm a little leery of giving Phillips too much credence, though; after all, this is the man who wrote Post-Conservative America - in 1982....
4. I've begun growing my winter pelt; it's a bit early, but we've had a few cold days, so....
