Wednesday, Bloody Wednesday
Sep. 18th, 2008 09:20 amI don't know whether what happened yesterday afternoon and evening was three separate bleeding episodes or a single protracted one with interludes.
I find that I no longer panic in the face of Ben's bleeding. The episodes are upsetting and very messy (and I'm glad I remembered that cold water is the thing to use in getting blood out of fabric), but Ben doesn't seem to be in pain - just discomfort. (He struggles so when I try to administer the epinephrine....)
When he had the first episode, the vet prescribed some pain medications, with a secondary effect of helping him keep calm. At the dosage she suggested, though, they made him lethargic, so, after some discussion, we cut the dosage in half. I've decided to go back to the original dosage, at least for a while, in hopes of preventing a recurrence of yesterday.
:sigh:
