Daylight and Cyrano
Mar. 20th, 2008 09:54 amThere's something to be said for Daylight Saving Time, I guess. Last night when I got home from work, a little after 7:00, the power was out. It was a small-scale outage; my neighbors to the north and west had power. As far as I can tell, only about half a block was affected, six or eight houses.
There was nothing particularly memorable about the incident, except that I wound up finishing Cyrano de Bergerac by flashlight. I don't know that I would have picked up the book last week, except that
kikibug13 had been talking about it, so: thanks, K! It was a lot of fun to read. I particularly enjoyed the scenes in the cookshop, in Act II, as the cook and would-be poet Ragueneau drifts around issuing incomprehensible orders to his employees, and Roxane's Act IV arrival at the French camp. That was where it became clear why Cyrano and Christian had fallen in love with her; besides her beauty, she's brave and clever. (The balcony scene, earlier, did not leave me with a good impression of her.) Well worth reading, and I'll have to watch the movie this weekend.
