The last time I chose a long-distance company was... quite a while ago. Dissatisfied with AT&T, I switched to Sprint. Sometime after that - I don't recall how long - I noticed that, though Sprint was still listed as my provider, the money was actually going to, mm, some other company I'd never heard of. I shrugged; as long as the service was provided and the charges were reasonable, it made no difference to me.
Sometime later, the account was switched again, to another company; and again, this last time to a company called UMCC.
I just received my final bill from UMCC. In it is a note informing me that, as of May 15, 2007, UMCC no longer provides residential long-distance service. In other words, more than a month ago, they cut me off and didn't get around to telling me this until now.
(I will admit that I don't make that many long-distance calls.)
They do, oh-so-helpfully, tell me that "If you have not yet chosen a new long distance service provider you need to do so by contacting your current local phone provider."
Grumph.
