I have loved Mary Hopkin's rendition of "Those Were The Days" for a long time, and I just recently bought a CD including that song. Imagine my surprise when I ran across this item at Language Hat.

Yep, it's a Russian song.

(Reminds me of the story of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".)
