Make Room! Make Room!

I just put some bills in the mail. One of them came with a pre-addressed return envelope. (Well, all of them did, actually, but I only want to talk about this one.) The envelope, as is common, included lines for the return address. The last line was as follows:
"City____State____ZIP________"

The space provided for the ZIP code was about an inch long; the other two, about half an inch. Now, I can understand giving less space for the two-letter state code than for the five-digit (or nine-digit, if you're obsessive) ZIP code, but do they really expect all of their customers to fit city names, of unpredictable length, into the same space as for the state code? Nitwits.

It's not quite as bad as making the invoices slightly larger than the return envelopes, but it's close.
