The National Weather Service, through its website and elsewhere, provides the people of the United States with constant and up-to-date information concerning meteorological conditions.

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) has introduced a bill barring the NWS from providing such information, except in extreme and hazardous cases, on the grounds that they are unfair competition for such for-pay organizations as AccuWeather.

OK. So, the government, using (among other funds) my tax dollars, collects information on the weather, and Sen. Santorum wants to forbid them to tell me what they've learned.

Thanks a bunch, Sen. Santorum.

(Thanks, of a different sort, to The Carpetbagger Report for the heads-up.)
