Seriously.
Two lectures yesterday, and my voice held up, just barely. It helped that my students decided to be quiet enough that I could use my regular speaking voice rather than my professorial one. Today's calculus lecture went rather badly. (That room is larger and the students less ruly. Also, I'm tired.)
The appointment yesterday was with the student who's doing the paper on Peacock. She has to give a brief presentation of her proposal in the project-prep class, and she needed a pep talk. I pointed out that it's easy to underestimate the difficulty of something you've been studying, to other people who haven't been studying it; also, that by department guidelines a historical paper is just as valid as a high-powered proof. She seemed to be feeling better afterwards.
I finished Part II of the paper today. There were some details in one of the subcases that I hadn't worked out; I've got them done now, but they're not pretty. That couple of paragraphs definitely will need reworking. Part III should flow smoothly; what goes in there is stuff I've had a lot of time to think about.
I'm thinking I might post a (slightly) more detailed explanation of the paper. The proofs don't need to be included, but some of the results are fairly easy to describe.
