Of Bunnies and "Buffy"
Jun. 25th, 2004 07:35 pmAlthough the area where I live is fairly well developed, there's still a certain amount of wildlife around here. A few minutes ago, while going out to check the mail, I saw something out of the corner of my eye; it turned out to be a tiny rabbit, about the size of one of my fists. It took refuge in a hole that's opened up under my front walkway. (That worries me a little, because I'm going to have to have the hole filled in. If there's been any tunneling going on, well...) If there's one rabbit, and one that young, there must be more. I think I approve of that.
The last couple of days, I rewatched my DVDs of the Angelus arc from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". "Surprise", "Innocence", "Passion", and the two-parter "Becoming" remain, in my opinion, among the best episodes that show ever offered, and some of the most affecting television I've ever seen. ("Surprise" is good, not great, but it's needed to set up the rest; the other four episodes are just stellar.) I can't hear Sarah McLachlan's "Full of Grace" without remembering the ending of "Becoming" and tearing up. The whole second half of "Passion" is packed with great moments: ( Passion ) "Buffy" never reached those heights again. Season three maintained a higher average level of quality, especially in its second half, but had nothing quite as good, and the seasons that followed were so uneven... Sigh. I have the first five seasons on DVD; I'll probably order season 6 this weekend, and season 7 when it becomes available, but that's mainly because I'm a completist.
