Today, while grocery shopping, I picked up a couple of rawhide bones for the dogs. As soon as everything else was put away, I gave one to each of them. It's always amusing for a day or so afterward; they keep stealing each other's bones. I'll walk into the bedroom, where Ben is gnawing away on his, and Murphy will follow me in and complain because Ben has a bone and he doesn't. (He left his in the living room, of course.) I'll see Murphy gnaw the head off his while Ben is still engaged in licking; half an hour later, Ben is chewing on a bone with the head missing, while a whole one (slightly licked) lies nearby. (It used to be that Ben would lie on top of one while chewing on the other, but I think I've gotten through to him that that isn't acceptable behavior.) Silly mutts.

I'm rereading Emma Bull's Finder. It's odd. I have three of her other novels - War for the Oaks, Falcon, and Bone Dance - and can give pretty good summaries, even some details, of their contents, but every time I read Finder it's almost completely new to me. I would say, though, that it's probably the weakest of her books.

I'm also trying to figure out why Carole King's Tapestry is such a memorable album. Her voice simply isn't that good; there are only a few songs of hers that are pleasant to my ear - "Where You Lead", "Jazz Man", "Nightingale", maybe a few others - and most of them aren't on that album. It's got to come down to content; I'll admit, I'm a sucker for songs about homesickness and the like ("So Far Away", "Home Again", "Way Over Yonder"), and the lyrics of the love/friendship songs appeal to me too. Hmm... I wonder who could do justice to those songs?
