Here's (part of) the relevant passage, from Ch. 9. Baley is talking to Dr. Fastolfe, in Spacertown.
"'You've never been sick, Dr. Fastolfe?' 'Not with a parasitic disease. We are all liable to degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, of course, but I have never had what you would call a cold. If I were to contract one, I might die of it.'"
Fastolfe later reveals that the Spacers allowed Earthers to believe it a matter of snobbery; for it to become common knowledge that Spacers are afraid to approach Earthers would be disastrous, given the current state of Earther/Spacer relations.
