Toe Woe

I woke up yesterday with a bad toe. The skin under my left big toe was dry and cracked, and slightly painful to walk on. This happens from time to time; it takes a few days to heal, and I'm a little gimpy for the duration.

The problem was that I was supposed to take Murphy to the vet for shots today. Now, walking a mile-plus along and across a major thoroughfare, while attempting to control an unruly dog - this I can do. Doing so while limping, and with a forecast of mixed snow and rain, was a bit more than I felt like attempting, so I called in and cancelled the appointment, rescheduling for next Saturday.

Shortly afterwards, in the grip of a major sneezing fit, I found that I was down to my last tablet of Benadryl. So, I had to go out after all. Fortunately, the path to the local Target is less than half that distance, and avoids traffic. Also, the threatened precipitation had not - has not - materialized. (Knock plastic!)

In addition to the pills, I picked up another pack of blank DVDs and a new phone, for my den. (I now have two functioning phone lines in the den, so that I can go online without cutting myself off from callers. Most callers, of course, are solicitors, but family, co-workers, and students need to be able to get in touch with me. Thank God for Caller ID!)

I'm back home and relaxing; I might start a fire in the fireplace in a little bit. If it weren't for that toe, I'd be completely comfortable.
