Well, it's not winter yet, but the winds are blowing. Literally. We had a bout of warm - even hot - weather during the first part of last week, but it's over. Yesterday was wet and stormy, and today it didn't break 40F.

When I took that course on topological groups all those years ago, I did well the first two quarters, not so well the third. I have now reached the section of Hewitt & Ross that covers the material from the third quarter. Now things get interesting.

I'm quite impressed with The Last Chronicle of Barset so far - at least, I'm impressed with the main plotline, concerning the unfortunate Mr. Crawley. Some of the secondary plotlines are less interesting. When I finish - I'm a little less than halfway through - I'm definitely going to give it a full review.

A couple of Amazon packages arrived the last couple of days. Contents: Thud!, by Terry Pratchett; Alexander Hamilton, by Ron Chernow; A Lifelong Affair: My Passion for People and Politics, by Bethine Church (the widow of Sen. Frank Church, and a Democratic activist in her own right); Life's Solution, by Conway Morris; Sharpe's Tiger, by Bernard Cornwell (yep, I'm starting another series!); C. S. Friedman's This Alien Shore; and the Party Doll CD by Mary Chapin Carpenter (another rec from [livejournal.com profile] desertvixen, whom I haven't thanked properly for Alabama - thanks, DV!). I'll probably start on Thud! pretty soon.
