Well, I don't say it's a close analogy. I was simply riffing on the idea of someone, from one perspective quite accomplished with regard to certain skills, stumbling badly in a specific application of those skills. Certainly Herriot comes off much better (if for no other reason that he clearly recognized his mistake, and in time rectified it).

What the heck. I just wanted an amusing teaser to blunt a rather bitter commentary (grin), and the Herriot story came to mind.
