Reshuffling

Next year's teaching schedule is having to be rearranged; one of our faculty has resigned, effective the end of this semester, and the Assistant Chair (who is responsible for course assignments) is scrambling to fill the hole. As matters stand, it looks like I won't be teaching the GenEd statistics course after all, but rather the junior-level course in abstract algebra. That's fine with me; I don't mind teaching the stat course, but abstract algebra is one of my specialties. (My other two courses will be Calc II and a course on Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry. The latter is fun; as for the former, well, at least the students have some idea why they need the course, which always helps.)

Of course, as the AC told me, this is effective only until the next rearrangement...

End of this summer session or end of Fall semester? Glad you can look forward to teaching some more enjoyable subjects; that's always a plus!

Effective the end of summer. We've got an unexpected search committee trying to find a temporary fill-in, and another, longer-term, is to begin work in Fall. We're waiting to hear from the Dean just how many positions we'll be able to go after - there are also a couple of retirements coming up, and they'll need to be replaced as well. It's a headache. (Fortunately, the areas that need filling aren't ones I'm qualified to evaluate, so I won't be on the committees...)

Nothing teaches the living reality of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle like a bit of college scheduling, ne? ;)

I'm glad you've got something fun; hopefully, some cool students will show up to make it even more fun.
