Odd Thought

In "Calvin and Hobbes", Calvin's female nemesis was named Suzie Derkins; Suzie is presumably short for Susan.

Calvin.

Susan.

Does anybody else suspect Watterson may have buried yet another in-joke in there?

Given he has always said Susie was based on his wife, I've always assumed the name had some personal significance - her second name, or a childhood nickname, or something like that. An in-joke was not so much a possibility as a given.

Um, what would be the injoke? Or am I just dense?

Eh, I don't really know. (About the in-joke, that is.) It's just that the juxtaposition of the names "Susan" and "Calvin" brought I, Robot to mind.

Ah. I haven't read I, Robot, so that explains my confusion.
