E-mail Blues

The university's e-mail system has been down since about 3:00 CDT yesterday, and is likely to remain down until sometime tomorrow.

Grumble.

Eeep. That's a long time for a mail system to be down! Presumably more than one server is affected?

The system actually came back up around 5:00 PM yesterday, well ahead of prediction.

Around 3:00 on Monday, something glitched and every user inbox in the system got wiped. The long downtime was spent a) trying to figure out what happened (and I'm not particularly reassured by the message the gurus sent out in the aftermath) and b) restoring as much as possible of the deleted mail.

Fortunately, I download all of my mail to my home computer, so the only stuff I may not recover is from the five or six hours before the glitch.
