Naguib Mahfouz

Naguib Mahfouz, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988, has died.

I bought the Cairo Trilogy quite a few years ago, but never got around to reading it. I think I shall have to, now.

I finally assembled all three volumes a the final Brandeis booksale. (In past years, I never seemed to find more than two out of three at a go and I have a policy against buying incomplete trilogies, since it's like a hex on your chances of finding the missing book.) I've read half-a-dozen other works from him and found them all interesting and worthwhile. A lot of times, I think the Nobel Prize for Literature goes to an overrated author; this is at least one instance where they got it right.
