Defending the Flag

Well, the Padres won their opener tonight, 6-1 over the Giants; Piazza and Greene homered, and Josh Barfield got his first ML hit and run scored. Newcomers Adrian Gonzalez and Vinny Castilla also contributed offense.

It's a good start. The pundits are predicting that the three California teams will fight it out for the division title, but the favored order seems to be LA - SF - SD. Here's hoping they've got it backwards.

Ze Spouse appreciated the review, but added, "He didn't mention anything about Barry Bonds."

While you're here, don't forget, your mission is to scope out the site of the 2007 Nasfic, with particular attention to food within [preferably short] walking distance. It's the hobbit thing to do. :)

I didn't mention BB because I have no particular use for the man and because, notwithstanding that, I found the behavior of my fellow Padres fans at the game to be abhorrent - more fit for Philadelphia than San Diego.

Ouch! Given what I've heard about Philly fans, that's quite the zinger. ;)
