DVD Woes

Damn. I seem to have broken the ejection mechanism on my DVD player.

I wouldn't much mind buying a new player; this one's been acting up lately anyway. But there's a DVD inside.

I wouldn't much mind sucking up and buying a replacement for the DVD. But it's one of the Buffy Season 7 DVDs. To replace it, I'd probably have to buy the whole set again.

I bought the player at Target. It's probably out of warranty, but maybe I can get them to do something - if nothing else, to get the DVD out.

I haven't finished my Buffy marathon yet. (The stuck disc is #2; it includes the two best episodes of Season 7, "Selfless" and "Conversations with Dead People". Wouldn't ya just know it?)

Sigh.

I hope you're able to get the problem solved soon.

If it's dead anyway...

When I read this I clearly heard the voice of Johnny Five ( robot from the Short Circuit movies ): "Disassemble!"

At least that's the way I got a tape back from my broken VCR; same principle, I would think.

Grin. Try a bribe in the direction of the technical theatre crew that runs the plays on campus or the EE students/staff. Bet someone can get it open if you are willling to say the machine is toast and will b replaced.

Bent paperclip techniques?

If you're resigned to junking the player anyway is there any reason not to fish a stiff wire into the joints around the tray and see if you can't hook something, and drag out the tray and disc by main force?

I imagine you've solved it by now, but if not...Best Buy has The Geek Squad that fixes these kinds of problems. If nothing else, I'm sure they could retrieve Buffy safely from her prison (g).

Unfortunately, the mechanism is recessed, and there are no obvious avenues of access. Throw in my general mechanical ineptitude, and I think I'll have to trundle it over to Target.
