Gene Wolfe, 1931-2019
Son Of A Bitch.
Gene Wolfe has died. It's not altogether surprising; the one time I saw him, at.. Denvention?... he was wheelchair-bound and seemed otherwise not in the pink, but it's still - it's *always* - a shock.
Most F/SF fans will remember him for the Severian books, but he wrote a lot of other stuff. "Free Live Free" and "The Fifth Head of Cerberus" stand out in my mind.
Wolfe was erudite, allusive, difficult to follow at times, but most of his books were richly rewarding. He will be missed.
