Hawthorne has an automated notification feature: I get an e-mail reminder whenever Buster or Gracie is due for shots or other treatment.

A few days ago, I got a message that they both needed to come in for DHPP shots. My summer schedule is such that Fridays and Saturdays are pretty much the only days I can take them in, so I made an appointment to bring them in today.

When we arrived, the person at the desk looked at their charts and said, in puzzlement, that they weren't due for anything. I explained about the e-mail, and light dawned: that shot is on a three-year schedule now, but the notification system still has it on a one-year rotation.

The appointment was at 2:00. The temperature today was in the 90s F. All three of us reached home tired, thirsty, and thoroughly disgruntled.

I have been assured that this will not happen again.

Addendum, hours later: Damn. I just realized how sunburned my arms are.
