Treats

Dogs' personalities....

Giving treats to Buster and Gracie is itself revelatory. If I have treats to give, Gracie gets up on her hind legs, dancing, and she snatches the offering the moment it comes within range. Buster simply stands there, waiting for the treat to be brought to him. I have to hold it in front of his muzzle for his inspection; after a moment, he'll accept it from me. This occasionally causes problems; if the treats are small and Gracie has already gobbled hers, she'll try, sometimes successfully, to snatch Buster's treat in the moment that my fingers relax.

There's one exception to Buster's diffidence; he'll take Beggin' Strips without any hesitation at all. Both of them love those, taking the treats and dashing into the living room to eat them. They find it necessary to break the Strip into bite-size pieces, and whichever finishes first will race over to the other, hoping to hoover up any bits the other hasn't gotten to. Gracie eats hers in puppy-bow position, presumably to give Buster less chance to get between.

Dogs are endlessly fascinating.
