Surprise
The next book I will be subcataloging is The Essential Rumi, a collection of poems by the great Sufi mystic. I mention this only because of the last substantial item in the Table of Contents:
The justification for including these is a favorite metaphor of Rumi, comparing the relation of the teacher to the student to that of the cook to the chickpea in the pot. The justification seems a bit strained, but I'm not going to complain.
A Note on These Translations and a Few RecipesSure enough: chana masaledar (spicy chickpeas); early morning curry; Sunday vegetable curry; and rassum ("pepper water", a spicy broth).
