Hmm.

My doorbell just rang. At the door was someone who wanted to encourage me to vote for a certain mayoral candidate on Tuesday.

Nothing unusual about that, eh? It was the candidate in question himself.

Somehow I'm doubtful about his election chances.

heh. State representative candidates do that around here. At least, the winning ones do.

But I suspect they represent fewer voters than your mayor does.

I just looked up the Wikipedia article of your town and it's only a little bigger than mine (about 4000 people difference), but here mayoral candidates have been known to go door to door.

Six of one, a half-dozen of the other. Candidates for political office at the city/county level used to do that all the time. These days, though, people are weirded out by seeing a candidate in the flesh instead of on YouTube, so it may not work anymore.
