The mind boggles. Bizarre stance indeed. I suppose we could say Maseres had problems separating mathematics from its particular physical instances, but since you say that there wasn't any formal basis until Peacock's work, I suppose that makes sense. Seems a big jump from Maseres to Hardy, Russell, and Whitehead.
