Did the person who coined the bon mot "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ever hear of a thing called preventive maintenance?

I used to hate that in the Navy. They had a program where they would check each piece of equipment and if it didn't meet specs they would take it down. It was a perfectly working piece of equipment but....so I would lose at least 3 transmitters a week. Not good on an aircraft carrier.....guess who

Undoubtedly not. Then some poor sap like us has to get in 60000 years after the spaghetti has taken over, any documentation has been turned into oil deposits and burned, and fix the damned thing after it breaks catastrophically. Drives me nuts.
