I followed the link and was bemused to read:

That "but" is telling. The reporter who wrote that piece himself failed to make the connection between a willingness to restrict the rights of a free press, and the perception that the press is egregiously failing its duties.

I'd laugh, if I found the problem even blackly funny anymore.
