Mama Bear

When I made my Waldorf salad last week, I used Braeburn apples, on a whim. I'd never tried them before.

Braeburn apples are the Mama Bear of apples, neither as tart as, say, Granny Smiths nor as sweet (and bland) as Delicious apples. Here, at least, they cost about twice as much as Delicious, but they're worth it.

This has been a Public Service Announcement.

Braeburns can be pretty good. May I recommend Nittany apples, and Honeycrisps if you can find them? (I've only seen Honeycrisps at the farmers' market. I get Nittanies there, too, but I once saw them at Whole Foods.)

I'll look into those. Shop'n'Save's selection (in fruit, as in most things) is erratic, but sometimes they surprise me.
