Playlist 9
Only nine songs this time.
- Sand in Your Shoes, Al Stewart. Another lilting song about an absent friend: "So it's goodbye to milady of the islands".
- Seven Year Ache, Rosanne Cash. My favorite of her songs: "All the boys say, When is he gonna give us some room? / All the girls say, God, I hope he comes back soon..."
- Tell It All Brother, Kenny Rogers. This one has a revivalistic feel, denouncing petty cruelty and hypocrisy. The instrumentation is spare and the voices unadorned.
- This Train Don't Stop There Anymore, Elton John. I didn't know this one until fairly recently. The acoustic imagery is good; you can almost hear the chuff-chuff in his voice.
- Book of Days, Enya. Steady and driving, but with the misty acoustic effects that are Enya's trademark.
- No Sugar Tonight, the Guess Who.
- Lodi, Creedence Clearwater Revival.
- Share the Land, the Guess Who. It's very much a song of the sixties in its feelgood message of togetherness, but I like it.
- Son of a Preacher Man, Dusty Springfield. Her greatest hit; I have a clear visual image of her performing it on the Ed Sullivan Show, although that almost has to be from syndication or a film clip.
