Old Friends

Recently, I've been seeing quite a few links to the writings of a fellow named Doug Muder. His personal blog, Free and Responsible Search, is quite interesting, and he's also put together a number of political columns that have attracted quite a bit of interest, notably Red Family, Blue Family.

I mention this, not only to recommend his work, but because Doug Muder was a classmate of mine - we entered the doctoral program in mathematics at the University of Chicago in the same year, and went into the same specialty, algebraic geometry. We lost touch soon after graduating, but I've occasionally wondered what became of him.

I guess this is my year for locating (or being located by) old friends.

How interesting! I hope you've let him know you were reading him.

I haven't contacted him yet, no; I'm trying to figure out the right approach. This weekend, probably.

Good luck! He couldn't but be pleased.
