Google Grudge

I cannot fathom the following sequence of events.

a) I begin typing in the Google search box.
b) Google offers several possible completions, and I select one.
c) Google objects to my selection: "Did you mean :something else:?"

(I have many objections to the "Did you mean" message, but this one is especially annoying.)

The autocomplete and the evaluation of the search ("did you mean?") are completely distinct and don't talk to each other.

(If they do talk to each other, it's pretty easy to get trapped in the usual case.)

I see. Nonetheless, the fact that there are cogent other-side-of-the-interface reasons for it - and I admit their cogency - does not make it any less irritating on this side.
